Does Size Matter?

Question/Comment:

I am small for the level of soccer I play. the big guys always make a run at me because I am skilled. How do you play with out getting hurt ?

Answer:

Nicholas,

First off there is no perfect size for a soccer player. You may think you are small and have your obstacles but every player has their strengths and weaknesses. For example you may think that you are small and lack the physicality needed for the game. Where as a tall player must be saying "man I wish I was small and quick", much like yourself. So what I'm trying to say is your size shouldn't be a deterrent in your ability to perform. Not only that the best player in the world is small, quick and technical.

Your question referring to playing and avoiding injury is a two part answer. First yes of course your physical preparation for the game is important to avoiding injury. This includes having a high level of fitness, physical strength and flexibility to be able to withstand the daily demands of the game. Obviously proper warm up and cool down is crucial in avoiding injury especially at the highest of levels. I had a daily warm up and cool down routine that I did everyday no matter what. Another large contributor to not sustaining a significant in all my years of playing has been Yoga. I highly recommended it and it has been the secret to my health and flexibility.

Create a daily routine and hold yourself accountable. Enjoy.

Question/Comment:

Hi,I am a 18year old girl playing for the national u20 team of my country. Since we have been off,I have gained tremendous weight..due to stress writing exams and the circumstances I live in.. I would Really appreciate your help.. We are leaving on the 17th of june to another country for a 2week soccer camp..I would like to be on form and give my utmost best to the sport I crave so much..
Thank you in advance..

Answer:

Well Carmel putting on some weight because of stress and being busy like you are is completely normal, even for high level athletes.

You need to get back to you regular sleeping and eating routine before anything else. You then need to ease back into training to get yourself fit for your camp.

I know I work best when I'm held accountable and have a schedule of how, what and when to train. If you're looking to get into the best soccer shape you've ever been in and train like a pro I would recommend this 6 Week PRO Fitness Training Program to get you back on track.

If you're serious about getting back in shape this will help you tremendously. Hope this has helped, good luck to you.
