Question/Comment:

I am a 22 years old player and have a rather good soccer portfolio. played at the highest level and earned quite a few awards. I tried out for a professinal and semi-pro teams, was one of the few left standing at the end and then nothing, Where do i go from here?

Thank you,
Matt Meier

Answer:

Matt, having a great portfolio which you say you do have is the first step and that's great.

Your question is one that all players on the pursuit to their professional dreams all face, "where do I go from here?"

I've heard this question time and again and have asked it to myself several times along the path to getting what I've ultimately wanted. You will ask yourself this question several times from now until the day you stop playing soccer. Then you'll ask it again.

Im not sure of your age or where you've played or tried out or your ambitions etc but I can tell you one thing for sure. If you have a dream it will be pushed around, thrown against the wall several hundreds of times before you get it to stick. Then it's up to you to put the pieces together and keep pushing forward.

You're now in a better position then when you went to that first semi-pro trial you were speaking of. Not only do you have what you've always had, you now have some more experience under your belt, and hopefully even more to prove.

Regardless of your situation if you don't have an agent you need one. If you don't think you're good enough for an agent or whatever else then you can kiss your soccer career goodbye. Any player that's worth a dime has somebody representing them and when you show up to a tryout without one you look unprofessional and are already discounted before you touch a ball.

If your ambition is to play semi pro and such then you may not need an agent at first but as you climb the ranks and raise your ambitions then you'll need one. I would also suggest having a highlight tape, full game footage and references to go along with your soccer CV which you say you have. These are all things agents look for.

Matt, if you want that edge on your competition from a fitness stand point understanding how pros train is important and you can train like a pro with this 6 Week PRO Fitness Program here you will find a fitness program used by the pro's to prepare themselves for preseason and trials.

Where do you go from here Matt? Anywhere you decide. Hope this has helped. Good luck.

I am desperate to become a professional footballer and really need help

Question/Comment:

I am 16 years of age and it would mean the world for me to become a professional footballer. I currently don't play for a team but I am going to be doing a 2 year football development course at college to improve my skills. I train every week at least twice a week by myself. Could you please give me a week's training guide or some drills or anything that will help me become pro, it would really mean a lot to me, thank you for your time.

Answer:

Farai, It's always nice to hear a player with such high ambitions and passion for the sport. Dedication and passion are two very important aspects to becoming a professional footballer.

First off you said you currently aren't playing, an aspiring pro is always playing, always training and always working on their game.

You also need regular matches week in and week out along with increasing your individual training from twice a week to every day to have the opportunity to play professionally. And that's all it is just an opportunity.

If you want some advice on a weekly training schedule you are going to need to improve your technical ability so it is at the highest level possible. You can find technical footwork drills at the link below:

If you are serious about playing professionally then your fitness level needs to be at its highest level and having this 6 Week Pro Fitness Program is an absolute must.

Farai good luck to you and feel free to leave your thoughts below.
